Cocaine that has been cooked down with baking soda and other chemicals to create a hardened form of the drug that is then smoked is commonly referred to as “crack.” Crack cocaine street names often refer to the hardened texture of the drug while the name “crack” actually refers to the crackling sound that is made when the drug is smoked. Because most cocaine originates from South America and is trafficked into the United States by Mexican cartels and drug traffickers, many of the street names for the drug relate to the origin of the drug. For instance, you may hear cocaine being referred to as:

- that Peruvian Flake
Each of these cocaine street names directly refers to the perceived geographic region in which the drug was either cultivated in or from which it was received by drug traffickers for induction into the United States or other areas of the world.
